Project 2B : Natural Structure ( Space and Depth )

Task : Draw out a natural structure from environment
Natural structure choosen : Honey comb

Colour used : White and brown ,and majority warm colour->
Lemon yellow ,Cadium orange ,Blood red .
Materials : Staedtler 6H ,2H & 2B pencil,Artist water colours &

Idea : The first tought came into my mind when lecturer requested us to draw out a natural sttucture in project 2B was Honey Comb because the insect i like the most is honey bee.To me ,honey bee symbolise hardworking and busy.The honey comb constructed by honey bee is regular hexagonal in shape.A regular hexagon has all sides of the same length, and all internal angles are 120°. A regular hexagon has 6 rotational symmetry (rotational symmetry of order six) and 6 reflection symmetry (six lines of symmetry), making up the dihedral group. The longest diagonals of a regular hexagon, connecting diametrically opposite vertices, are twice the length of one side. From this it can be seen that a triangle with a vertex at the center of the regular hexagon and sharing one side with the hexagon is equilateral, and that the regular hexagon can be partitioned into six equilateral trianglesEach regular hexagon can connect to each other to produce a very uniform pattern and it is perfectly natural.The reason why i choose warm colour is because warm colour rev us and get us going.The warmth if red ,orange and yellow can create excitement.Besides ,warm colours convey emotion from simple optimism.Other than that the neutral of black and brown also carry warm attributes.

Process :

Stage I : Drawing

The honey comb is drawn out by using 2H pencil and the honey bee is added to the drawing to make this drawing more attractive .

Stage II : Colouring
Colouring is a most time consuming part because layers of colours are added.To paint this darwing ,artist water colour is used and i choose to paint it the pattern with warm colours.The hexagon is painted first then only paint the bee.
